Earnest Gene Halton Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, family member, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas on March 28, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1942, in Abilene, Texas, to Earnest and Deltessa Halton.
Earnest built his life around nurturing others, especially through educational system. Earnest spent his entire career at Palo Verde High School in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired in January 2002, leaving behind countless students and colleagues whose lives were enriched by his dedication and quiet strength.
Earnest was preceded by his dear mother Deltessa Smith and stepfather William Smith of Fort Worth, Texas who raised him with strong values of service, humility, and family. He was also preceded by his youngest son Justin Halton who was an unfortunate victim of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Earnest is survived by his five children consisting of one daughter and four sons: Andrea Carol Jones of Arlington, Texas; David Dwight Greene of Fort Worth, Texas; Earnest Gene Mack III of Tampa, Florida; Eric Halton and Earl Halton, both of Las Vegas, Nevada. Earnest was also a proud grandfather to several grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He also survived by his aunt Cecile Marie Hudson and her son (his first cousin) Roy Hudson Jr., both of Fort Worth, Texas and whom he often referred to as his rocks.
Earnest will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to family, and his contributions to the educational system. His life touched many, and his legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those who knew and loved him.
