Doug Purdin boarded the last train out of Fort Worth on April 27, 2017. He went to the Great Beyond to meet his parents Noel D. Purdin and Bonnie J. Purdin. He was an adoring husband, loving father, caring grandfather, and a reluctant veteran.
Doug was born December 2, 1945 in Tulsa Oklahoma, but he got to Texas as fast as he could. He lived in North Dallas and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1964. He was attending UTA when he was drafted in 1968.
He owned and operated Saginaw Auto Supply from 1981 to 2001. He created the ideal business where he could help others and surround himself with family, friends and broke down automobiles. He loved the outdoors, cars, telling stories, naps and embarrassing his children.
Doug wanted everyone to know he was drafted during the Vietnam War and he definitely did NOT sign up for service. He was in charge of payroll at Fort Carson, Colorado and he could mess with the paychecks of any one that gave him a hard time. Filling up his pickup with Coors to bring to Texas was a fun and profitable hobby. He moved to Fort Worth to start a family.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife Sally Purdin, his children Mike and Sunny Purdin, his sisters Sherry Kay and Diane Purdin, his grandtwins Lilly and Cassie Purdin, his ex-wife and mother of his children Sandy Stines, ex-brother-in-law Jimmy Stines who was more like a brother than in-law, and step-sons Mark Jones and Jason Jones. He has many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. He also leaves behind a very sad dog, Tiffany. We are sorry to report; he wasn’t lying when he blamed it on the dog all those times. Sorry.
We are having a party in honor of his life on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1pm and a few words will be said at 2pm at his home. We will have all his favorite food and drinks, so be ready to party. Feel free to come and go all afternoon.
Arrangements under the direction of NEPTUNE SOCIETY - Fort Worth, Fort Worth, TX.
