Doris Morgan Jolly passed away in her home in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 92 on November 21, 2018. She was born at home, Doris Jane Ballard, in Ashland, Kentucky on February 22, 1926 to her parents James E. Ballard and Martha Ann Ballard. She was blessed to have been born and called home by Our Lord surrounded by her loving family.
Doris grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she lived until graduating high school in 1943. She met her first husband, John R. Morgan, Jr, at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts and they married prior to his departure to the Army in 1945. Doris and JR remained married until his death in 1977. During their 34 years of marriage, they raised three children, John Gregory, Janet Lynn and James Reid. They lived in Clayton, New Mexico, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Lubbock, Texas. After JR’s passing, Doris was able to pursue training in nursing resulting in becoming a licensed vocational nurse. She actively practiced nursing from 1978 until the early 1980s. Doris married John P. Jolly of Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1983 and returned to her Las Cruces home. They remained married until his passing in 1996.
Doris was deeply committed to her Christian faith and practiced her Christian teachings for her entire life. She loved to travel which included two trips to the Holy Land. Doris was a member of P.E.O. and was actively involved in various Bible Studies in her church. She enjoyed corresponding with her friends and genuinely loved researching and writing personalized Christian journals for people.
Doris is survived by her children: John Gregory Morgan and his wife Alexis of Fort Worth, Texas, Janet Lynn Morgan of Fort Worth, Texas and James Reid Morgan and his wife Janet of Las Cruces, New Mexico. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Sheri Morgan, John Morgan, Matthew St Carrell, Christopher Carrell, Kristin Morgan Fernandez and Eric Morgan. Doris is also survived by her 8 great-grandchildren and her sweet dog, Ginger.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Doris’s name to Christian or Veteran organizations of your choice. There will be a memorial service on December 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Christ Chapel Bible Church, 3701 Birchman Avenue in Ft Worth, Texas followed by a memorial service held on December 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at La Posta Restaurant in Old Mesilla, NM. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
