Donald Earl “Donnie” Renfro passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of February 21, 2025.
Donnie was born June 24, 1941 in Columbia, TN, to Noble and Freida Renfro. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Operator for four years. He returned home and married Charlene Overstreet in March of 1965. They had two children, Scott and Kristy, and eventually moved to North Richland Hills, TX. He enjoyed a long career with American Airlines. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for hobbies that brought him joy and connection with others.
Donnie found great pleasure in fishing. He took many fishing trips to Canada, and Lake Fork in East Texas. He also had a knack for small engine repair, enjoying the challenge of putting things back into working order. In his later years, he could be found watching old Westerns on television with his longtime friend, Vince Wells. He had a very close relationship with his son-in-law, Jeremy, and they spent countless afternoons watching sports or tinkering in the garage. He cherished times with his grandchildren, Peyton and Caden, and loved them dearly. His eyes lit up at the mention of their names.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Rachel) Renfro of Ladson, SC; his daughter, Kristy (Jeremy) Wiley of Fort Worth, TX; his sister, Patricia King of Columbia, TN; his beloved grandchildren, Peyton and Caden Renfro of Ladson, SC; and his constant companion Tooder, his dog of 17 years. Donnie also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as many close family friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Charlene, in 2023, and many family members and friends.
His family would like to thank:
Carol Foster for her kindness and all the delicious meals she would provide during his wife's illness and the time thereafter.
Vince Wells for his friendship spanning several decades, and his continued support to the family as Donnie fell ill.
Heart to Heart Hospice for their incredible care during his final days.
Donnie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of kindness and love bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
Donnie will be laid to rest on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 1:15 PM at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
