David Irwin Portnoy went peacefully into the Lord’s presence March 11, 2017 surrounded by his wife of 33 years Lynett “Dynck” Portnoy and several loved ones. He was born in Los Angeles, California on August 28, 1938 to Hyman and Ruth V. Pollack Portnoy. He was an engineer by trade and traveled extensively around the world before falling in love with his beloved wife ‘Pita’ and settling down in Irving, Texas in 1983.
He was known as David, Dude, Papa Dave and the Big Russian. He could design anything, build anything, fix anything and if anyone needed a tool, he had it. He always had a project going and could do anything from surveying property to fixing cars to building kitchen cabinets. He loved life, loved his family and was always there if anyone needed help. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister Donna Britton of California, his stepsister Rieta Heddens of Oregon and by his children, son Dana Portnoy and his wife Diane and their children Justin, Nicole and Tyler of Nevada; his daughter Gina Albert and her husband John and their children John, Austin and Jacob of Nevada; grandchildren Jade Ellen, Marisha, Shane and by nine great-grandchildren.
He was also a beloved stepfather and grandfather to: Kelly and Shawn Hancock and Dana Kay; Karen and Mike Alejos and Daniel, Jonathan and Morgan; Linda Rudder and Austin; David McKenzie and Bradley; Eric and Eva Rowe, Max and Hannah; Jake and Charly Rowe, SonnyAnn and Abraham along with several extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother Ruth and his son Shane Portnoy and grandson Brandon.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for David I. Portnoy will be held at Story Road Baptist Church at 801 S. Story Road, Irving, Tx. 75060 on April 1, 2017 from 1:00-3:30pm. Please bring your favorite photos and stories to share. Finger foods and homemade dishes will be served.
