David Roy McMurrey, 55, passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home on Friday, June 29, 2018 after fighting a courageous twenty-five year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was surrounded by loved ones who were comforted by his deep faith in Jesus Christ and the promise of the Resurrection and the life to come. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
David was born August 21, 1962, in Fort Worth, Texas to Roy and Carmen McMurrey. After graduating from Burleson High School, He was a member of the Sammy Vaughn and the Cowtown Strings at Carter Country where he was able to do what he loved which was play the guitar. David received his electrician certification with the highest of honors in 1990 and worked for several electrical companies before landing at Morgan Electric from 1998 until his retirement in 2003. He loved music and had a digital collection of over 30000 songs from a variety of genres. If you were lucky, he took great pride in burning you a CD of your favorite music. He had a heart for remembering details about people. Even in his failing health, he would always ask how other people were doing. He had a keen sense of humor and a mischievous nature to match and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Roy L. McMurrey, with whom he enjoyed playing the guitar, watching old westerns and NASCAR. Survivors are his mother, Carmen McMurrey; his wife Lori Stone McMurrey; his son, Christopher McMurrey and his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Bird, his daughter Falon Otto and her husband Beau Otto as well as three beautiful granddaughters, Eden, Emerson and Elise who referred to him as DoeDoe and who made him smile and brought joy to his life. He is also survived by a brother, Darrell and his wife Leigh McMurrey, as well as a niece Michelle and her husband Josh Pittser.
A memorial service will be held on Friday July 20th, 2018 at 11:00am at Northwood Church; 1870 Rufe Snow Drive; Keller, TX 76248. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
