David Jacob Ferenz, age 60, of Dawson left this life to begin his next adventure on Monday, July 2, 2018, after a heroic battle with cancer. Born in Harlingen on March 31, 1958, to George and Patricia (Williams) Ferenz, David lived a life full of love surrounded by his family, friends, good food, and great beer.
David was a devoted husband, Daddy, and Papa. In 1980 he began a career with IBM that would span 34 years. It was at IBM, on his very first day of employment, that he met his soulmate, the love of his life, Linda Reagan. One of David’s favorite quotes by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe reads, ”This is the true measure of love: when we believe that we alone can love, that no one could ever have loved so before us, and that no one will ever love in the same way after us.” Nothing could be truer for David and Linda who spent 38 years growing a love for the ages that served as an inspiration for everyone around them.
In June 1982, the inspirational duo became a trio when David welcomed the second love his life, his daughter Lindsey, to the world. Theirs was a home filled with love, laughter, and excellent BBQ served up by the great grill master himself. One of David’s favorite pastimes was traveling with his family. From touring the great state of Texas to snorkeling the shores of San Pedro, Belize, he worked to pass along his love of the outdoors to his family.
After retiring, David and Linda moved to a lake in Texas where he became an avid beer brewer and fisherman. He could be found many evenings sitting by the lake, beer in hand, fishing with his buddies. On weekends, David spent time with his grandchildren building pinewood derby cars, cheering at soccer games, playing wahoo, and teaching them to fish.
David built his life around love and laughter. Though he has moved on from this life, the joy and love that he instilled in the hearts of his family and friends will live forever.
David is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Lindsey Travis and husband Jason, grandchildren Jay, Joshua, and Reagan; sister Rebecca Ferenz and brother Harold Ferenz and wife Cynthia; In-Laws Fredie and Evelyn Goble; ten nieces and nephews, and 14 grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 852 Bedford Euless Rd, Hurst, TX 76053. Family, friends, and others whose lives David touched are invited to help celebrate the life of a man, who in the words of Jimmy Buffet, “lived a good life all the way.”
