He was born February 3, 1949 in Grayford, Texas, where his mother, Daisy Lacy Daniels, owned the drugstore on the square, and his father, Clay Daniels Sr., ran the bait and tackle shop. Alongside his brother, Lacy, Clay grew up on the banks of the Brazos River learning to swim with snakes. After graduating from Mineral Wells High School, he attended Texas Christian University where he met Vivia White, his wife of 54 years. Toward the end of the Vietnam War he enlisted in the Air Force, served for seven years, earned the rank of Staff Sargent and became an expert in the new field of microwave communications. Clay then earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition to engineering Clay worked in finance, often working the tax season for "fun."
Clay was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife and brother, as well as his daughter, Gaea and her husband, Majid Sawan; their children, Solomon and Adam; and his son, Abe Daniels and wife, Trish; their children, Zeke, Daisy and Eli. The Memorial service will be held Saturday May 24 at 2:00 at University United Methodist Church, 2416 West Berry St., Fort Worth, Texas.
