Chuck graduated from Pass Christian High School, and studied at Perkinston Jr. College and Delta State University before making his home in Aurora, Colorado. He raised his family there and loved bowling and golfing with family and friends. He worked for the U.S. Federal Government for over 40 years before retiring in Texas.
No formal memorial or celebration is planned at this time, however, we thought we would share a few of Chuck's favorite things. We invite you all to please share a memory or sentiment of this wonderful man. He was much loved and will surely be missed.
Chuck's absolute favorite thing to do was shooting craps in Las Vegas with his Bubba-in-law/best friend Bruce Dotson and other best friend, Bob-Robert Burton. Spending a week twice a year gambling with family and friends was his true heart's delight, and let's not forget eating Magnolia's pancakes and Lappert's ice cream.
Chuck loved his Colorado sports teams! He was a diehard Denver Broncos fan and extremely proud of the fact that he had never missed a John Elway snap. Going to Colorado Rockies baseball games, as well as watching Avalanche hockey games, with family and friends was a favorite pastime. He also loved college basketball, and through son Tim, became a devoted Duke Blue Devils fan. He greatly admired and respected Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Chuck loved all things family and if you stopped long enough, he would start bragging on his grandkids. He was always up for watching his grandsons play sports, granddaughters dance, family get-togethers, playing games and opening up the dessert line! Man, he loved his sweets, especially Dairy Queen's Oreo blizzards. He enjoyed taking road trips, stopping to visit with friends and family, and exploring new destinations, We had some great trips and he never minded taking the scenic route, as long as there was an DQ or IHOP stop along the way.
Chuck was an avid reader of fantasy novels by authors Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks and Robert Jordan. Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro were his favorite actors and he was forever misquoting them. He loved music and some favorites were Patsy Cline, Fleetwood Mac and Queen. He enjoyed going to musical events and concerts, and knew the words to most songs. He would sing out loud, no matter where we were... Really loud!! Our song was "Amazed" by Lonestar, and he sang "Good morning, beautiful" by Steve Holy to me at least twice a week for 22 years.
Chuck never met a stranger in his life. It seemed as if he knew people everywhere he went. Sometimes he did - but more often than not he had just sparked a conversation and made a new friend. He was one of the kindest people to ever walk the Earth, with a genuine soul and a self-less knack to say the right thing at the right time to make someone laugh. You can bet he is riding a golf cart with Don Willis and reuniting with those we have lost.
