Carol Owen Tucker of Grapevine, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 25 at the age of 74. Carol was born in New York to Al and Shirley Owen and grew up in Hauppauge on Long Island. Carol is survived by her sons James Aller Yule Jr. (Adrianne) of Keller, Texas, and Bryan Owen Yule (Karen) of Bartonville, Texas. She leaves behind her four beloved grandchildren: Evie, Luke, Lainie, and Charlie. She is also survived by her sister, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.
Carol graduated from Hauppauge High School where she was a member of the Eaglettes dance team, honor society, chorus, and yearbook and newspaper staff. She was also named Miss Hauppauge. After high school, Carol attended State University of New York at Oswego where she studied French and secondary education. At Oswego, Carol also met her first husband, James (Jim) Yule, who joined the Air Force after graduation.
The Air Force led Carol and Jim to Texas. They eventually settled in Keller, where they raised their sons. Carol was an active mother and community member. She served as a room parent and coached soccer for her boys. She was also active in city government, serving on the Keller City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem.
Later in life, Carol was a successful sales representative for Schering-Plough and then Merck Pharmaceuticals. She was recognized numerous times as a top sales representative until her retirement in 2014.
Upon retirement, Carol became a Texas Master Gardener and continued to be an active member of the Grapevine community, where Carol lived with her second husband and the love of her life, Bill Tucker. She volunteered with the Grapevine Police Department and with various other organizations through the Master Gardener program. She was also an active member at White’s Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake.
Carol never met a stranger. She loved talking with people and she made friends everywhere she went. She had lifelong friends from elementary school and high school. She met fellow Air Force families and parents of her sons’ classmates that became lifelong friends. Carol also made many friends through her work on the Keller City Council, and her positions at Schering-Plough and Merck. She valued all of her friendships deeply. She made it a point to stay in touch with her friends, near and far.
Carol loved to cook and was an exceptional host to friends and family. If you lived nearby, you may have been fortunate enough to enjoy one of her wonderful meals, which she enjoyed sharing with others. If you lived far away, she would welcome you with open arms as a houseguest, cooking amazing meals and showing you around the community she loved so much. For several years, Carol and Bill hosted a Fourth of July party to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Called Tuckerfest, the party was a highlight of the year, bringing friends and family together for good food, drinks, and some friendly competition.
Carol was immensely proud of her two sons, Jim and Bryan, and the men that they have become. She adored her grandchildren, who called her Honey. She loved spending time with the “grands” whether it was having them over to spend the night, go to the movies, see a show at Bass Hall, explore an escape room, or visit the REC in Grapevine.
Carol and Bill enjoyed traveling together to visit family or friends, or just to explore a new place with one another. They looked forward to their annual trip to the Bahamas, often inviting friends or family members to join them. After Bill’s death in 2017, Carol continued to travel any chance she had. Carol also enjoyed reading, movies, and television shows. If she found a fellow book lover, she delighted in sharing new books that she read and loved or getting suggestions to add to her “to-read” list. She also took pleasure in spending time outdoors in her beautiful backyard oasis and caring for her many plants and flowers.
We miss Carol deeply, but take some solace in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones that preceded her in death, including her husband, Bill; her mother, Shirley; her father, Al; her brother, Gary; and her sister-in-law, Kathi.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Grapevine Botanical Garden.
