Bobbie was known for his prowess on the football field at Yorktown High School during the1950s. After graduating, he enlisted with the United States Air Force and served for 20 years in the branch’s intelligence division during the Cold War. He was the first in his family to graduate from a university, earning his degree from the University of Maryland at Heidelberg, majoring in Business and minoring in Languages. Throughout the course of his career, his postings took him around the world, spending time in Korea, Japan, Okinawa and Germany. At retirement, Bobbie was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal given in the name of the Secretary of Defense. Recipients of this award are recognized for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service in their career. After retiring from the military, he worked at Bell Helicopter for the remainder of his career.
It is safe to say that Bobbie’s life was filled with travel, curiosity, and wonder. After retirement, Bobbie continued to travel the world for the remainder of his life, taking journeys that led him to explore Europe and Latin America. As a lover of animals, he often would watch documentaries on animals and wildlife and dreamed of traveling to the Amazon to see the wonders of the rainforest. He always invested in himself for opportunities to grow: becoming a certified flight instructor, learning Spanish (in his seventies!) to learning yoga.
Though a man of few words, Bobbie was hard not to love. Family members fondly describe Bobbie as, modest, gentle, and good humored. His intelligence and expertise with strategy games, especially bridge and dominoes, were well known to his family and friends.
