Billy Joe “BJ” Miller of Hurst, TX slipped away peacefully in his sleep to walk forever in God's glory on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the age of 86 years old. BJ was born on May 11, 1938 in Carroll Springs, TX to parents Billy Virgil and Gertrude Adella Miller. He graduated from Athens High School in 1956. He received his Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Henderson County Junior College (HCJC) and then continued his education at the University of Texas at Arlington.
At the age of 16, BJ worked as a projectionist at the local theater where he would receive frequent admonishments from fellow worker and future wife, Freita Miller (née Huggins), to stop singing over the movies. The two began dating the following year and were then wed on March 24, 1960 in Dallas, TX. He went on to work at Transcon as a dock loader, truck driver, route manager, and supervisor before the company closed and he finished his career at ABF.
A devoted Christian, BJ followed God’s plan for his life by serving in his local church in many capacities, such as church builder, music minister, accountant, and Sunday school teacher. He also followed that call by building churches in remote areas all around the world with mission workers during his retirement. His love of travel led him and his wife to travel around the countryside visiting every state and Canada over several years’ time in their RV. He also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.
A beloved husband, father, Grandaddy, brother, uncle, and friend, BJ is survived by his wife, Freita Miller; daughter, Felicia Yates (née Miller), of Bedford, TX; son, Stacy, and his wife, Helen (née Lee) Miller of Las Vegas, NV; grandson, Clint, and his wife, Emily (née Ahrens) Yates, and their sons, Luke and Sam, of Colleyville, TX; and grandson, Jarred Miller, of Bedford, TX; and further survived by other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents, and sister, Betty Nell Trussell (née Miller), of Palestine, TX.
While we mourn the loss of his presence, we also celebrate in the knowledge that he has been given a new body and is now free from pain. His loving wife, Freita, and the rest of the family, invite you to celebrate his life with us this Saturday, March 1st, at Central Baptist Church 1120 Central Dr., Bedford, TX 76022 at 10:30 a.m. She asks that you wear bright colors to honor his wish to celebrate being reunited with his Heavenly Father. Those unable to travel for the service will be able to view it live streamed through the church’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
In lieu of flowers, BJ’s family requests donations be made in his honor to his beloved "Mission Builder" friends. Donations can be sent to: “BJ MILLER MEMORIAL” Central Baptist Church PO BOX 321, Bedford ,TX 76095
