Bette attended Lufkin High School and graduated with honors in 1947. She attended Baylor University in Waco and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1951. She taught history at Pascal High School and was Office Manager at Nash Manufacturing and WHECO Inc.
Bette married J. Wesley Reynolds in 1950 her senior year of college and moved to Fukoka, Japan. Her first child was born there in 1955. She returned to the U.S. and gave birth to her twin daughters in 1958. In 1972, she married Wade Harral, and they brought together a blended family of seven children.
Bette enjoyed traveling around the world, with her favorite country being Japan. She was a devoted wife and a mother to all children; she gave love unconditionally to her family and friends. She always had an open door and open ear. She was a past member of All Saints Episcopal Church, The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth, Ridglea Country Club, Petroleum Club, Rivercrest Country Club, Colonial Dames, Bon Vivant Gourmet Club, and numerous duplicate bridge clubs.
As a dear friend wrote, “No other person is as thoughtful of friends or has patience and camaraderie and compassion for any and all persons and situations as you.” She was genuine, generous, kind, positive, caring, down to earth, an avid shopper, a bargain hunter, a fashion diva, an exceptional hostess, and always fun to be around. She was the perfect combination of Hollywood glamour, Southern grace and Texas charm. She will be missed dearly but will live in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wade Harral; son Dr. Dan Reynolds and wife, Cassie of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughters Penny and Stacy Reynolds of Fort Worth, Texas; son Michael Harral of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren Jason and Holly Reynolds of North Carolina; Shannon Kmak and husband, Mark Modlin of Plano, Texas; Ali Laws and husband, Shane of Dodge City, Kansas; Ben and Nick Harral of Cedar Park, Texas; and great-grandchildren Kathryn Rose Cravey; and Shalor Laws.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial to American Cancer Society, 3301 West Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
