

A 1954 graduate of Wichita Falls High School, Bailey earned his Bachelor of Science from Midwestern University in 1958, where he also received his US Army commission. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army stationed in Washington, D.C. In August of 1960 he was appointed to the National Security Agency, in 1963 he accepted a position with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Bailey's NASA career spanned from 1963 – 1986. He was in support of NASA's Apollo, Skylab, and Space Shuttle programs. In 1963, he worked in the Math Physics Branch of Mission Planning and Analysis Division. In 1967, he moved to the Flight Software Branch of Flight Support Division and dedicated himself to NASA's Mission Control Center. Following NASA retirement in 1986, he joined the Rockwell International team responsible for the Mission Control Center and continued his commitment to MCC excellence. He retired from Rockwell in November of 1999.
He was a proud member of South Main Baptist Church Pasadena for 45 years. Bailey married Jeanette (Janie) Taylor in 2007; moving to North Richland Hills in 2010 where he attended Cross Church (formerly North Richland Hills Baptist Church).
Bailey was dearly loved and will be missed by all those who knew him. He was a generous loving soul with an immense love for God, family, friends and sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years Joan Corbett, his sister Georgia Keesee and husband Joe, brother Harold Corbett and wife Mary Jo, and sister Jane Young and husband Brian.
He is survived by his children Kay Sparks and husband Charles (Butch), Kimberly Martin and husband Donald Keith, Nancy Johnson and husband John, Bailey Lee Corbett, III and wife Debbie; grandchildren Charles Sparks, Jr and wife Lyndi, Christopher Sparks and wife Amber, McKenzie Williams, Karol Ann Swoboda and husband Marc, Nicholas Johnson, Bailey Dean Corbett, Kendon Corbett, Matthew Martin, and Chase Corbett; great grand-children Patience, Braelyn, Charleigh and Jess, IV (Ford); sister-in-law Nancy O'Brien and husband Mike; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by Jeanette (Janie) Taylor Corbett, William (Rip) Taylor and wife Lisa, Wendy Janvier and husband Chris, Samuel Janvier, Emily Riley and husband Chase and their daughter, Ella.
