She was born on April 23, 1931 in Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, the first child of Clara Augusta Reubel Philipp and Herman Joseph Philipp, M.D. She grew up in Jamaica, Queens, New York with her brother, Herman Henry Philipp, and graduated from John Adams High School. She went on to college where she graduated from the University of Kansas (KU) in June of 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. On October 12, 1952 she married Charles William Rogers and moved to El Paso, Texas. Charlie and Anita had two children, Anne and Philip, then moved to Fort Worth where fraternal twins, Susan and Karen, and youngest child, Bobby, were born.
Over the last 60 years, she was active in the Maj-Jo Class of First Presbyterian Church; the Fort Worth Women's Club in Nautilus and Women's Shakespeare Club; Chapter DE of P.E.O., various book clubs and bridge groups. She was athletic and enjoyed tennis, golf and boating but her real passion was travel.
She traveled by trains, planes, automobiles, buses, ocean liners, sailing ships, you name it, she took it! Her traveling companions were family and friends but she made new friends all around the world. Her adventurous spirit took her to all the well traveled destinations but she went beyond that to explore all the exotic places of the world such as all the World Heritage Sites, Easter Island, the Galapagos Islands, the Seychelles,and Komodo Island. Her regret was to have not seen Prague or Machu Picchu.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her five children, Anne Christensen, Philip(Melissa) Rogers, Susan Clara Rogers, Karen(David) Ekstrom, Robert "Bob" (Donna) Rogers; eight grandchildren Anna "Katie" Christensen, Erik Christensen, Lori Davis, Monica Gatske. Austin Rogers, Anita Clare Rogers, Robert "Bobby" Rogers and Sumner Philipp Rogers; as well as, the four sons of her brother and their families.
The memorial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 in the Long Horn Auditorium at Trinity Terrace with a reception following.
