Elmer was born in Henrietta, TX on December 22, 1941. He came from a farming family but sought a different course for his life. He learned the carpentry trade and eventually opened a custom cabinet shop.
Elmer always had a young heart and a jovial personality. He was a prankster known around Everman for his infectious laugh. He always had an open house and heart for friends and those a little down on their luck.
He was a husband to Martha for 58 years, Dad to son Ricky and Daddy to daughter Debbie. Every summer Elmer would load Martha and the kids into a camper and they explored almost all of the 50 States, building memories and planting the seeds of stories that would be told for decades. Many times they stopped to see family along the way.
As the years passed and travel wasn’t an option his lifeline was his phone. He looked forward to his morning chat with his best friend and older brother Ben William (BW) Mckee. He also spoke often with Debbie and Rick and his extended family, mostly his nephew Cecil Wayne who Elmer thought of as his younger brother. He even learned to “Facetime” to interact with the light of his life, his great granddaughter Morgan.
He passed away surrounded by family and friends. As he requested there will be no service, but friends and family will gather at the home of his daughter Debbie Gahagan, 42 Bounty Rd E, Benbrook, TX 76132 on Saturday June 9 from 3:00 – 6:00 for a casual, come and go remembrance.
Elmer is survived by his wife Martha, and many other loved ones including his son, Rick McKee and wife Natalie of Everman, TX, daughter Debbie Gahagan and husband Kevin of Benbrook, TX. Grandsons Brent Gahagan and wife Mendy of Aledo, TX and Phillip McKee and Michael McKee of Everman, TX, and great granddaughter Morgan Gahagan of Aledo, TX.
Surviving siblings include his brother Ben McKee and wife Mattie, and sisters Pauline Jackson and Myrtle Bosher. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews, most referred to him as their, “Favorite Uncle Elmer.”
