Vivian (Vickie) Stevenson Hamilton, 77, of Monroe went to Heaven on August 2, 2025 . Vickie was born on March 3, 1948 to Richard and Bonnie Stevenson. She is a native Atlantan and lived in the Atlanta area most of her life. She graduated from Clarkston High School in Dekalb County where she met her husband of 55 years, Bobby Hamilton. After graduating from Clarkston she attended the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Dekalb College, and graduated from the University of Georgia with an Arts and Science degree with a major in psychology. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Vickie married her high school sweetheart on June 13, 1970. They lived in married housing at UGA for about a year before returning to the Stone Mountain area where she was employed by Southern Railway in downtown Atlanta. Their first child, Christy, was born on March 22, 1974. Vickie was on maternity leave from Southern Railway and was to return to work soon. Sitting at the breakfast room table with tears streaming down her face she told Bobby she just could not leave her baby to return to work. Other than helping in Bobby's CPA practice she never worked outside the house again.
In 1979, a month before their second child, Richard Price Hamilton, was born they moved to Summit Chase in Snellville. Summit Chase was a wonderful place to raise their children. Many good times were had at Summit Chase Country Club where the whole family enjoyed playing on ALTA tennis teams.Vickie was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She was involved in all the kids activities - swim team, baseball, softball, basketball, football, and tennis. She took care of the homefront to allow Bobby to build his CPA practice.
Vickie had a strong faith in God which she demonstrated throughout her life. She converted Bobby to a Methodist from a Presbyterian shortly after their marriage by a Methodist preacher in a Presbyterian Church. Over their 55 plus years of marriage they were active in four Methodist churches - Allgood Road UMC, Snellville UMC, Cannon UMC, and Monroe First. Some of their best life long friends were made through their church service.
Vickie and Bobby were both UGA graduates as were both of their children. They were season ticket holders for football and basketball for many years. They shared many good times tailgating and traveling with their tailgating friends to Georgia football games. So many great friends and good memories.
In 2006 they built a house at The Georgia Club near Athens. They had 14 wonderful years there where they made many new friends. Vickie took up golf after they moved there and enjoyed being in the Ladies Golf Association. In 2020 they moved to Monroe to downsize and be closer to their church and family.Shortly thereafter Vickie's dementia got worse and after taking care of her at home for over a year Bobby had to move her into Great Oaks Assisted Living. She remained there for 2 years and moved again to The Graceful Manor in Monroe where she was for 22 months before her death.
Vickie and Bobby were blessed to have a wonderful family; parents and grandparents that brought them up in the Christian faith, brothers and sisters that they could count on and two children they were proud of. They were also blessed with a great son-in-law, Travis Thomason and daughter-in-law Michelle MacLeod Hamilton. Vickie loved both of them dearly. Nana, as the grandkids called her, was a loving and caring Grandmother to her 5 grandchildren-Matthew, Elaina, Ella, Vivy, and Price.
Vickie and Bobby loved each other very much and were best friends. They enjoyed spending time and traveling together. Vickie was such a good wife, mother , and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Bonnie Stevenson and son, Richard Price Hamilton. She is survived by her husband Bobby, her sister Susan Stevenson, her daughter Christy Thomason (Travis), daughter-in-law Michelle Hamilton, and 5 grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to the Monroe First Methodist Church Building Fund at 400 South Broad St, Monroe, GA 30655.
A memorial service celebrating Vickie's life will be held on Sunday August 24th at 3pm at Monroe First Methodist with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00. Pastors John Purrington and Ed Tomlinson will be officiating.
