

Dr. Susan Farley Krebs passed away peacefully Nov. 20, 2025, in Dawsonville, Georgia. She was born on Feb. 21, 1971, in Hiawassee, Georgia, and later returned to teach at Young Harris College. Dr. Krebs grew up on YHC’s campus, where her mother Blanche Flanders served as an art professor and her father Dr. Ray Farley was university president.
An avid world traveler and foodie, Dr. Krebs was a loving wife, mother, friend and family member. She cared deeply and laughed easily, and her generous heart made everyone feel welcomed and valued. With a suitcase always ready for an adventure, she met the world with curiosity, courage and delight. She was a maker of worlds and a queen of hearts. From her students and colleagues to her friends and family, she will be remembered for her strength, sharp wit, creative spirit and remarkable kindness.
Dr. Krebs’ passion for education was unmatched. She was an excellent mentor and an award-winning educator. She earned a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education from North Georgia College and State University; a master’s in education from Milligan University; an Ed.S. in education administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University; and a doctorate in leadership from University of the Cumberlands.
She spent a year teaching alternative school in Georgia before moving to Johnson City, Tennessee, where she taught for 19 years at Cherokee Elementary School. She later served as assistant principal for about two years at Fairmont Elementary and also spent roughly a decade as an adjunct professor of education at Milligan University. In 2022, she returned home to Young Harris College as an assistant professor of education.
Dr. Krebs is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Art Krebs; daughter Hailey Rogers; step-children Ela and AJ Krebs; step-grandson James, who lovingly called her “Queenie;” siblings-in-law Victor, Magali and Antonio Krebs; her extended family; and friends who were like family. Her memory will continue to guide all who knew her, including the thousands of students and teachers she supported throughout her life.
A celebration of life is planned for Dr. Krebs’ birthday, Feb. 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris, Georgia.
