It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Richard Hill, who left us peacefully on March 19, 2025. Richard was a cherished member of our family, and his love, humor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He spent the final 15 months of his life being cared for by the wonderful people in Memory Care at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody.
Richard was born on August 15, 1943 in Greenville, South Carolina, to Hal and Maggie Hill. Richard lived a life filled with purpose and joy. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sue, with whom he shared 62 years of love, companionship, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Richard is survived by his sister Nan (Doug Langley) and their family, sister Jane (David Martin), and numerous friends who became family.
Richard was a proud father to his daughter, Alyson and son-in-law Mark Metzler and son, Norris and daughter-in-law, Emily and his love extended to his grandchildren, Elie (Madison), Cooper, Katy, Wesley (Hope), Aaron (Cece), Bailey (Chelsea), Rivaldo, Rosie (Vaughn), Elli, and George and 6 great-grandchildren. His legacy of love and kindness will continue through them for generations to come.
He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1961, married his sweetheart, Sue, and then spent 4.5 years in the United States Navy. Following, his dedication to his work at United Parcel Service was unmatched. He spent many years as an employee, earning respect and admiration for his strong work ethic and commitment. He had a remarkable ability to find humor in every situation, and his funny stories and infectious laugh brought joy to everyone around him.
Generosity was a foundation of Richard’s character. His kindness touched everyone he met, and his love for others was evident in all aspects of his life. Another thing Richard loved to share was his stories. Always filled with humor and some kind of life lesson, his stories became legendary in the family and among his friends.
Outside of work, Richard had a deep passion for Westerns, finding comfort and excitement in their timeless tales. He also had a lifelong love for travel, exploring the world with Sue and creating memories in every corner of the globe. He visited 49 states and has cruised around the world.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, laughter, and generosity will never be forgotten.
A party will be held on Friday March 28, 2025 at Southbound (5394 Peachtree Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341) from 5pm-8pm, where family and friends are invited to celebrate his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Memory Care at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody (Attn: Keith Hunter), we are so grateful for their care of our sweet Poppy! Richard’s diagnosis of Dementia in 2021 quickly became a reminder of how time can slip away. It’s more important than ever to cherish moments with family and create lasting memories that will be treasured, even when the details may fade.
May Richard Hill rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories of all those whose lives he touched.
