It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude that we announce the passing of Philip Crawford, beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather, who departed this life on February 1, 2025, at the age of 72.
Philip's journey began in 1952, where he would soon establish himself as an exceptional athlete at his high school, earning multiple awards in track and field, football, and basketball before graduating from Copiague High School with the Class of 1970. It was during these formative years that he met the love of his life, Phyllis Anne Crawford, beginning a love story that would span over five decades.
His athletic prowess earned him a full football scholarship to Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where he proudly wore number 32 as fullback. Following his collegiate years, Philip built a remarkable career of public service and entrepreneurship, serving as a New York State corrections officer for nearly two decades. He later transitioned into tax services, becoming a respected Tax Counselor and Founding Partner of W&C Associates alongside his cousin, Harvey Walker.
Philip's zest for life extended well beyond his professional achievements. Together with his family, he pursued numerous passions, from spirited tennis matches and basketball games to creating lasting memories through cross-country vacations and sharing his love for video games with younger generations. As a devout Christian growing up in his family church, Union Grove Baptist Church, where his father was a head deacon, he understood the power of God and community. His commitment to community service was evidenced by his generous support of various organizations, including the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and the United Negro College Fund.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Crawford and Julia Lang, as well as his older siblings, Fletcher Crawford and Bernice Crawford. Philip's legacy lives on through his devoted wife of 52 years, Phyllis Anne Crawford; his children, Omar, Sherard, and Dahnika Crawford; and his beloved grandchildren, Jesse Eldell, Raihson Crawford, and Egypt Crawford.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to The Tabernacle Family Worship Center for their unwavering support and compassionate care during Philip's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Tabernacle Family Worship Center, where Phyllis Crawford continues to serve as an active minister to a thriving congregation.
Please join us in celebrating Philip's remarkable life - a life characterized by dedication to family, service to community, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. His memory will forever remain a blessing and an inspiration to all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held virtually on April 6th. We invite all who knew Philip to join us in remembering a man who touched countless lives with his warmth, wisdom, and infectious joy for life.
