ORLANDO, FL – Pat Bishop, a trailblazing leader in media, sports marketing, and higher education, passed away on January 9, 2026. As the Director of Graduate Studies at Full Sail University and a recipient of the prestigious Howard Palmer Award from Florida Citrus Sports, Pat was a woman of profound strength and deep spirituality. She lived by a daily mission: “God, provide me the strength and the pathway to do the greatest good.”
Born in Germany, the eldest of five siblings in a military family, Pat’s foundation was built on service and resilience—qualities shaped by her family’s disciplined roots and her mother’s German heritage. A proud alumna of the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism, Pat’s thirst for knowledge was lifelong; she earned her MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology and reached the pinnacle of her academic journey by earning her PhD from Northcentral University.
Pat’s professional journey spanned over 40 years of innovation. Before joining Full Sail in 2004, she enjoyed a 20-year career in sports and media, playing a pivotal role in the successful launches of the Sunshine Network (now Sun Sports) and the Golf Channel. She also served as a Regional Director for HSN and VP of Marketing for Evergreen Sales and Marketing Services, representing clients such as HBO, Showtime, and Time Warner Cable.
At Full Sail University, Pat was a visionary. She helped develop and launch the university’s first online degree and first Master’s program, eventually overseeing programs in Sports Marketing, Music Business, and Entertainment Business. In recognition of her transformative impact, Pat was honored with the Full Sail University Icon Award. This distinction is the university’s highest honor, reserved for those who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, shaped the institution’s history, and left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. Beyond the office, she was a dedicated mentor for women entrepreneurs through the Athena PowerLink program at Rollins College and a pillar of the Central Florida community.
Beyond her impressive career, Pat brought warmth, curiosity, and a genuine love of people into everything she did. She was the kind of person who never just joined something—she threw herself into it, whether it was high school cheerleading, the Honor Society, or later, covering sports for the University of Georgia school newspaper (where she famously befriended Vince Dooley). She had a deep love of travel, exploring six continents—thanks in part to her years with Eastern Airlines. She was a devoted Lost geek, a lover of music and the entertainment world, and someone who never missed a chance to attend a concert. Walking, a little golf, and long conversations with lifelong friends filled her days. More than anything, Pat valued friendship. She kept people close, stayed in touch, and made everyone feel remembered. Her friends weren’t just part of her life—they were her life.
A Final Journey of Courage
In her final years, Pat faced the challenges of early onset dementia with the same grace and “military-family” grit that defined her entire life. While the disease may have quieted her voice, it never dimmed her vibrant spirit or her capacity for kindness. She approached this journey not as a victim, but as a woman of immense courage, teaching those around her that a person’s essence is found in the heart, not just the memory. Even as her pathway changed, her mission to “do the greatest good” remained evident in every smile and every squeeze of a hand, proving that love is a language that needs no words.
Pat is survived by her siblings Pamela Bishop Roof, Robert Bishop, and Linda Bishop Lemmers, along with a global network of students and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Bishop, Jr., and her parents, Walter and Gertrud Bishop.
Information regarding a Celebration of Life will be shared at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform an act of mentorship or service—continuing
