

A beloved son of Marshall (Mart) and Helen Green, born in Battle Creek, Michigan on June 13th 1940. Marshall grew up on his family’s farm, graduating from Hasting High School in 1958. In Highschool, Marshall was a very active participant in Future Farmers of America (FFA), where he raised Hereford, Jersey and Holstein cows and showed them at local and state fairs. Marshall was also an athlete, participating in high school Football, Track and Basketball in addition to working on his family’s farm. Over his high school summers, he worked at local farms 6 ½ days a week receiving both room and board and money for college. Eventually, this led him to earning a Future Farmers of America Scholarship to Michigan State University (MSU). During College at MSU, he worked part time at the MSU Dairy learning all he could in the food science-dairy manufacturing industry. Most importantly, during his time at MSU; he found his soon to be wife, Nancy Fortune. Meeting on a blind date - Fourth of July 1961 - married a year later. Graduating from Michigan State University in 1962. Post graduation, Marshall furthered his career in many different subsets of the dairy industry; from working on the first milk sterilizer to construction of dairy projects. He assisted in the production of over 100,000 gallons of milk a day in locations from Michigan to Guam and everywhere in between. Finally, ending his career in sales where he and his wife would drive 1500-2500 miles a week selling various dairy ingredients. He retired in 2008 and would go on to travel to all 50 states and 5 continents with his best friend and wife. Passing on his love of travel to his descendants for countless years to come.
Marshal was preceded in death by his first born daughter, Debra Lynn Green; who also passed on November 21, 56 years ago. Additionally he was preceded by his Parents - Marshall & Helen Green, Parent in-laws - Leonard and Dorothy Fortune, Sister - Judy Deyarmond, Brothers in-law - Dick Fortune, John Fortune, Scott Soth, and Bernie Deyarmond.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife - Nancy; Daughter - Cheryl Flatt (Anthony), Grandchildren - Adam Flatt, Amanda Schill (Jonathan), Allison Flatt, Sister - Sandra Bailey (Joe), Brother in law - James Fortune (Barbara), Sister in-law - Peggy Soth and many nieces and nephews.
Marshall will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God through his church, love for family and his friends. Marshall’s time would often be filled with: cheering on his MSU Spartans, huddled around tables playing card/board games (especially Bridge, Pinochle and Euchre) enjoying the company of family and friends, gardening, landscaping, spending time with his dogs (Bandit and Princess) as well as collecting thousands of toy tractors and sharing laughs and stories with loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 10th at 2:00 PM at St. John's Anglican Church, 330 River Road, Westminster, SC 29693. A reception will immediately follow at the Employee Fitness Center at Osborne Wood Products at 4618 US 123 Toccoa, GA 30577 (about 7 minutes away).
