Joe was always very proud of his Choctaw ancestry despite the fact that his grandfather and his entire family were removed from the rolls when they accepted U.S. Citizenry in lieu of a life on the reservation.
After studying at Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Southern Methodist University, Joe left collegiate life for a career in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Sandra Diane Everidge (nee Stewart) and raised two sons with her before she passed on August 2, 2022.
Joe retired from active military duty as a decorated Chief Warrant Officer 3(P) after serving overseas in Ansbach and Bitburg in the Cold War and in Kuwait as part of Operation Desert Storm.
After his retirement Joe was very involved with his local church family at Bethel Methodist Church.
He is survived by aforesaid sons Christopher and Jonathan and his beloved grandchildren Alec, Jonathan, Benjamin, Georgia, and Thomas. His grandson Christopher passed away in July of 2024 and will be waiting for "Grandpa Joe" upstairs.
Joe's life and legacy are also celebrated by his great grandchildren, Maliah Straight, Aria Monthei, Kai Monthei, and Ila Everidge.
Services will be held on 21 September at 10:00 AM at Bethel Methodist Church at 245 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts please consider a donation to the Henry County Animal Shelter 527 Hampton Rd, McDonough GA 30253. Joe, Sandy, Lucy and Ethel would greatly appreciate it.
