Jim was born in Ocala, Florida, to Lucia Marteny and Necy Lewis. Raised by a devoted single mother, he learned early the value of community and helping others. The encouragement and support of those around him opened doors that led him to serve in the U.S. Army and graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Those experiences shaped his lifelong belief in building meaningful relationships, creating opportunities for others, and paying forward the kindness he had received.
Jim was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, kindness, generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, encouragement, and friendship.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Jim cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; his daughters, Stephanie and Katherine; his grandchildren, Alexis and Emily; and his sister, Gloria.
Jim was an active member of Grace Fellowship Church in Snellville, where he faithfully served through church ministries and local schools. He loved history, reading, traveling, skiing, and meeting new people. Whether volunteering, sharing a story, or spending time with loved ones, he found joy in the people and experiences that enriched his life.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, faith, generosity, humor, and genuine interest in others. His legacy of love, service, and connection will live on through the family, friends, and community he cared for so deeply.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 1400 Dogwood Road, Snellville, Georgia 30078.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and condolences. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Kidz Ministries.
