Eric was diagnosed in October 2024 and exhibited courage, grace and perseverance over the following 21 months as he endured chemo treatments with all their varied side effects. He was determined to live his best life for as long as possible, returning to work and doing things he loved with the people he loved.
Eric was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 30, 1988, but called Atlanta home after moving there at the age of 2. Eric graduated from North Springs High School and studied at Georgia Tech. He worked for Ferguson Enterprises in Doraville, GA, formerly Manufactured Duct and Supply, and had become a branch manager in 2024.
During his middle school and high school years, Eric was active in his church youth group and through it developed a love for Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina. Montreat continued to be a favorite place into adulthood. He served there on summer staff for three years and participated in planning youth conferences as a member of multiple planning teams and as Co-Director of a team for the 2025 Montreat Middle School Conference. Relationships formed at Montreat were close to his heart and lasted throughout his life.
Eric loved sports and cheered for all Atlanta teams. He especially loved Atlanta Braves baseball and Formula 1 Racing. He also loved to play games, whether board games around a table with friends and family or video games.
Eric is survived by his parents, Dennis and Nancy Thompson (Hendersonville, NC), his brother Keith Thompson and brother-in-law Jimmy Szewczyk (Washington, DC), brother Scott Thompson (Bozeman, MT), his devoted dog, Lucky, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Roswell, Georgia, on Saturday August 1, at 11am, with a reception following. In memory of Eric, donations can be made to the Montreat Fund or to cancer research of your choosing.
