Dennie was born on August 12, 1939, in Uvalda, Georgia, to James Dennison New and Mary Irma (Outler) New. From a young age, Dennie carried with him a warmth and charisma that lit up every room he entered. Though he may have met a stranger, he always left having made a friend.
Dennie was a man known for his kindness, generosity, and selflessness — always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was fixing a broken fixture, offering a ride to a stranger, helping refill a gas tank, or ensuring a family had food on the table, Dennie lived a life of quiet service to others.
He spent many years working at the Savannah Sugar Refinery before moving to South Florida, where he built a career as a respected general contractor. For over four decades, Dennie served the Treasure Coast community with integrity, skill, and care.
Dennie was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His warmth, charm, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dennie is survived by his daughters, Marsha (New) Manesh, Melinda (New) Nicholson and her husband Ken Nicholson, Michelle (New) Dobbs, Brittany (New) Bearden and her husband David Bearden, and beloved stepson, Carl Justi and his wife Kara Justi; his siblings, Dudley New and his wife Joan New, Faye (New) Cunningham, Jan (New) Wrightson, and sister-in-law, Betty New.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene "Gene" New, and son, George "Dennie" New.
Dennie also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, Jessica (Jones) Mays and her husband Clifford Mays, Mason Manesh, Sierra Manesh, Morgan Manesh, Brande (Frame) Keith and her husband Tommy Keith, Joshua Nicholson and his wife Tessa, Jarrod Nicholson and his wife Beka, Landon Dobbs, Liesha Dobbs, Lynsey Dobbs, Eva Mae Bearden, Aslyn Bearden, Lynley Bearden, and Beau Justi. There are also seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness and compassion lives on in the many lives he touched.
A celebration of Dennie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that acts of kindness be shared in his memory — just as he would have done.
