She graduated from Palomar College with her Associates degree and went on to study at UC Davis and Connecticut College.
She had a number of interesting careers including spinnaker making, nursery sales, Postmistress at Connecticut College, science and photography instructor at the Thames Science Center, dog training instructor and ultimately as a breeder and trainer of champion Australian Shepherd dogs. She was actively involved in the Australian Shepherd Club of New England and the Australian Shepherd Club of America, as well as the Connecticut College Arboretum.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Florence (Palizay) Robinson and brother Kenneth Robinson. She is survived by her husband Glenn D. Dreyer, sons Jeremy Steven Dreyer and Eli Daniel Kirk and grandchildren Jonah, Reina, Noa and Evan.
Growing up near the Santa Anita Race Track and the LA State and County Arboretum helped cultivate her lifelong love of animals and plants. Wendy learned to love gardening and natural history from her parents and became an expert at identifying grass species with technical keys. Upon moving to Connecticut with Glenn, she learned to identify birds by their songs and participated in the long-term breeding bird census in the Connecticut College Arboretum Bolleswood Natural Area for 20 years. In the early 1990's, she began breeding Australian Shepherd dogs and became a gifted animal behaviorist. While only whelping one or two litters a year, she produced so many champion dogs that her Arboretum Australian Shepherds was declared a Hall of Fame Kennel by the Australian Shepherd Club of America.
The family would like to thank the nursing and technician staff at Backus Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Wendy in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to The Connecticut College Arboretum.
