Verlon Jackson, 77, of East Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025 after a strenuous battle with cancer. Verlon, daughter of the late Julia Bell and George Hilson Sr. was born on May 7, 1947. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Lake Wales, Florida and relocated to Connecticut, where she worked at Connecticut National Bank. She then moved to South Carolina, where she worked at East Cooper Hospital. Verlon was a committed member of First Seewee Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the missionary board and was elected president of the Pastor’s Aid ministry until she returned to Connecticut. Upon her return, she was employed with R.E.M and March Inc. as a direct support professional until she retired. Verlon was a devoted member of the Red Hat Society for many years.
Verlon was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family and friends will remember her warm and welcoming personality, bright smile, and loving ways. She was very outgoing, yet protective of her family. She was an amazing host in which she opened her home to family and friends for parties and gatherings. Verlon leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
In her free time, Verlon loved to travel, cook, and go out to eat. She enjoyed hosting events and entertaining visitors at her home. Verlon especially loved shopping on QVC and HSN, and attending social events including plays, luncheons, and galas.
Besides her parents, Verlon Jackson was preceded in death by her son, Mark Atmore Sr., granddaughter, Asjah Atmore, and siblings, Diane Worthy and Virgil Hilson.
Her memory will be cherished by her loving children: Percy James Atmore Jr. of East Hartford, CT, Angela Johnson of Bloomfield, CT, and Kisha Atmore of East Hartford, CT; sister, Dorothy McCalop of Hartford, CT; brother, George Hilson of Hartford, CT; grandchildren: Latesha, Bryant, Tiffanie and her husband James Ugbomoiko, Little Mark, Braelyn, and Tanesha; great grandchildren: Lydiana, Trey, Amare, Amir, and Sayuri Monae; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, including special friend, Claude Hatten.
