Thad M. Hasbrouck, 101, of Wethersfield, died on April 14, 2026. He was born on December 6, 1924, in New Haven to Thaddeus and Edith (Martin) Hasbrouck. He was raised in Hamden, where he graduated from high school in 1942. Thad, having enough credits to meet graduation requirements, enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps within days of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was a gunner in the Marine Air Corps in the Pacific Theater, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant.
While on a military leave, he married his sweetheart, Doris Barnard. They shared a loving union of 64 years, until her passing in 2009. After the war, he was employed by Safety Car Heating and Lighting in Hamden while attending New Haven College, earning an associate's degree in engineering. Following, he worked at Talco Engineering in Hamden.
Thad was then employed as an engineer by Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring. His career at Hamilton encompassed a range of projects including the Apollo 11 space suits, jet engine fuel controls, and wind turbines, to name a just a few.
The Hasbrouck family moved from Hamden to Wethersfield in 1955, where Thad became a faithful member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield. He served the church in several capacities, including church board president, deacon, and church school superintendent. In later years, he helped organize the Men's Prayer Breakfast and was an active member until his passing.
Friends and family were important to him, and our gatherings will be fondly remembered. Thad was a founding member of the Hasbrouck Family Association, and he served on its board for many years. Musical events, square dancing, theater, and golf were some of his favorite leisure pleasures- especially golf, which he played until he was 95.
Thad will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, and as a member of the "Greatest Generation" that gave so much to their country, communities, and families. In addition to his wife Doris, he was predeceased by his brother Donald Hasbrouck and a granddaughter, Heidi Olsby. He is survived by his son, Thad C. Hasbrouck, and his wife, Dale; daughter, Donna Hasbrouck; granddaughter, Margaret Essex, and her husband, Chris; grandson Jonathan Hasbrouck and his wife, LeAirra; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
The family would like to thank entire staff at the Newington VA, Hartford Healthcare, and at The Summitt in Plantsville for the care and compassion they extended to Thad. A special thank you to Nina who provided home care.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on June 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Church of Christ Newington, 1075 Main Street, Newington, CT. Visitation at 9:30 AM. Interment will be private.
