Richard Fontaine age 92 from Willington, CT took his last flight in this world to meet his beloved wife Athlyn Alice (Hesselton) Fontaine on June 6, 2022. They had been married for 72 years. Richard was the son of Leo Fontaine and Marie (Thibodeau). He grew up in Worcester, Ma. and had three brothers Robert, Harold, and Joseph who predeceased him. Harold’s wife Donna Fontaine resides in Sacramento, Calif.
Richard joined the US Army and served 2 years in Panama. He and Lynn then raised their family of three children. He leaves behind his daughter Christine Cowell and husband Bob, sons Ken and Don and his wife Mary Kay. Life blessed him with six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Richard worked most of his professional career at Morgan Construction Company in Worcester initially as a draftsman retiring as Assistant VP of Rolling Mill Engineering. As a result of his work travels, he had a fondness for Japan and Hawaii. He learned to cook Asian cuisine in his retirement and loved Hawaiian vacations.
A man of many talents, Dick was a boat builder and owner, airplane pilot, fisherman, scuba diver, gardener and traveler in his RV. He was an avid Red Sox fan. The Florida Keys were special to Richard and his family. Dick and Lynn lived in Key Largo for 15 years. This past April he made a visit there, took a flight to Key West and reflected on a beautiful life. His interests live on with in his family and his spirit remains with us.
A family celebration of life is planned for September.
