Peter Jefferson Goodell (63) died in New Britain, CT on June 26, 2023. He was born on November 5th, 1959 in Kabul, Afghanistan, the third child of Ralph and Dinorah Goodell. In 1962 the family moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where Peter started school at the age of 5. He continued his education in CT when the family moved to the States in 1965. Peter was an excellent student, first in his class, receiving many awards when he graduated from Moreland Hill School, Kensington, CT. He completed high school at Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford, CT. Peter’s college years were spent at Connecticut College, where he received a BA in Art History in 1981.
Afterwards he completed a course in computer programming and worked for many years at the Hartford Insurance Company, Hartford, CT. In the mid 1990s he went back to school and received an MA from Wesleyan University in Math Education, 1996. He taught different levels of math at Central Connecticut State University for a number of years.
Peter had many hobbies. He loved sports cars and frequently drove Datsun z-cars. He enjoyed building rockets and other complicated models which were executed to perfection. He valued fitness and would often put on a thousand miles in his bike on country roads in CT in the summer. As a child Peter mastered chess and enjoyed a variety of card games, usually winning them all. He was good at creating a sense of “home” and frequently had Siamese cats over the years.
He is predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his sister Elizabeth and brother Jonathan (Betsy), as well as a niece Sarah (Andy), nephew Brian (Charlotte), and nephew David. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society, Newington, CT. A private service for family will be held later this year.
