John “Jack” J. Egan of Cheshire Ct., age 75, beloved husband of Mary A. Moran, passed peacefully on January 15th, 2025. Jack, son of John F. Egan and Margaret “Mudge” Whelan, grew up in Waterbury and attended Sacred Heart High School. He earned a business degree at Sacred Heart University and belonged to Sigma Eta Upsilon Fraternity.
Jack was owner of Egan Painting. He was a master of paint and wallpaper, who was always in demand. He was a longtime member of the Wallcovering Installers Association (WIA) where he served as president, treasurer, regional director and education committee chairperson at local and national levels. He was bestowed the most prestigious WIA award given for outstanding service over an extended period of years. Many homes in the New Haven area have been touched with his excellent craftsmanship.
Jack will be remembered most for his humble kind soul, warm heart and great sense of humor. He cherished his family and friends dearly and that love was returned by all. Jack was very appreciative of the love and care that was given to him during his lifetime. He touched so many lives and was a true brother to all.
Jack was always there to support others. He was generous with his time for so many, either to provide guidance, listen or lend a hand. We cannot forget Jack’s luxurious beard and twinkling blue eyes. He was often mistaken for Santa by many children, young and old.
He also respected musicians for their artistic talent. He loved listening / attending a variety of live music events. He loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, rafting and kayaking. Jack and Mary shared many outdoor adventures. He especially enjoyed Peaks Island, Pawley’s Island, Wells Beach, Provincetown and the Country Club.
We are eternally grateful to the loving staff at Elim Park, where he spent his final months. They were kind, compassionate and treated us as family. We will forever hold them in our hearts.
Jack is survived by his wife Mary Moran, sister Ann Egan and wife Eileen Cranney. Also family in-laws Bridget (Rick) O’doy, Jack (Barbara) Moran, Brian (Stacy) Moran, Jean (Lou Pontacoloni) Moran, Maggie (Mike) Bell. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grands, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his loving cousin Thomas Jackson.
