Henry Robert Charland

Born May 20, 1943 in Portland, Maine, Hank graduated from Westfield State College, Westfield, MA and dedicated himself to work in public service. A veteran of the U.S. Army, assigned to Military Police Units, he continued over 20 years in law enforcement, employed in Lynwood, California as a police officer, and retiring from the City of Hartford Police Department in 1988.

Hank was a lifetime member of the Hartford P.B.A. and Police Veterans Association.

Left to mourn but also celebrate his life are his cherished son and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Charland, and grandson Brett, all of Springfield, MA, and his daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Vincent Jegelewicz of Westfield, MA. Also surviving are his beloved partner and wife, Sandra of Newington, along with stepdaughters Jackie Cook of New Britain, and Jennifer Robinson of Newington, and her children (the apples of Hank’s eyes), Emily of Windsor and Kevin of Newington.

Hank is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and John Klenakis, of Agawam, MA, as well as his brother, Robert Charland of Southbridge, MA.

Hank’s hope is to prepare the way for his loving family and friends upon their exit from this life.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
