Born in Brooklyn, New York, Gloria was the eldest of three siblings and carried a deep sense of family throughout her life. She was married to George White—the love of her life—for 25 years until his passing, a bond that continued to shape and inspire her family even in his absence. Gloria spent her career as a secretary, retiring in the 1990s. She was an avid reader and enjoyed musicals and movies. Known for her sharp sense of humor and her gift for making others feel at ease, she left a lasting impression on all who had the joy of knowing her.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, George White in 1991 and her brother, Mel Kornblum in 1993. She is survived by her daughter, Suzi Lee Schell, and son-in-law, Anthony Schell; her beloved granddaughters, Nichole Mowery and Julia Musgrove; her brother, Michael Kornblum; and her dearest friend and “sister of choice,” Eileen Kleinberg. Gloria’s deep love for her family and friends was the true center of her life.
Our family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care Gloria received from the staff at Mystic Healthcare during these final years of her life.
A small service will be held in her honor at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic, Connecticut, on Saturday, May 24th at 4 p.m., followed by a dinner to celebrate her life and memory. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be scattered with her husband’s in the Scattering Garden at the edge of the Mystic River.
Gloria’s husband carried their wedding photo in his wallet alongside a quote by Oscar Hammerstein that read,
“A bell is no bell till you ring it;
A song is no song till you sing it,
And love in your heart wasn't put there to stay,
Love isn't love till you give it away.”
She will always live in the hearts of those who knew her.
