FROST “FROSTY” (Thurnauer) KRIST, of Hebron CT, born December 26, 1945 passed peacefully at home on December 17, 2024. The love of her life, Joe Krist (married 680 months) was by her side, along with their daughters, Pam, Debby & Abby, her friend Joyce, and her Golden Retriever Jack.
Frost was predeceased by parents, Warren & Gloria (Tompkins) Thurnauer of Manchester and brother Beau Thurnauer of Coventry. She is already deeply missed by Pamela Krist Atwood (Hebron CT), Debby Krist Potticary (Clemmons NC), Abby Hayward (Rocky Hill CT), her caring sons in law, Tom, Richard & Dean respectively; and her four adoring grandchildren, James & Abby Potticary and Tom Jr & Charlotte
Atwood. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Logan Thurnauer and his partner Alix (Denver), Jaclyn Thurnauer Orlowski and her husband Rick (East Hartford); Terry Haines and his wife Cumalee (Dallas); Lisa Haines (Dallas), and their children and families; her first sister-in-law Joyce Manning (Westerly); sister-in-law Nancy Thurnauer (Coventry); and many dear cousins throughout the US.
A 50-year resident of Hebron, she began her career as a teacher. Then she and a friend opened Datatype, a transcription and secretarial service which incorporated in 1983. Frost said transcription gave her a terrific education on business, Hartford & State politics, legal and medical issues. A true entrepreneur, before starting Datatype, Frost and Joe and their lifelong friends, Diane & Harv Desruisseaux created “Harvey’s HangUps”, yarn and bead macrame plant holders. She was a founding member of the Hebron Business & Professionals Association.
Frosty loved supporting town activities and volunteered on many committees and boards, including mentoring through the AHM Lanterns program, served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Douglas Library of Hebron (including the most-recent building addition committee) and was a Girl Scout leader in the 1970s & 80s. Frost also taught piano to many of her daughters’ friends and always helped cheer for the Mustangs girls softball team which Joe coached and on which their daughters played.
As a realtor with Century 21 All-Points, Frosty often extended her professional relationships, becoming good friends with many clients. One of the joys she and Joe shared included going to client/friends’ houses during the holidays to deliver special cinnamon bread to each family.
Frost was an active member and past Secretary of the Hebron Lions Club, volunteering annually at the Hebron Harvest Fair, pancake breakfast fundraisers and pushing pixels for the new Lights in Motion. She made good friends in the club, and the family thanks Lions members who brought meals and supported them through this difficult time.
Frost’s life was always filled with music. Her parents taught her the basics, how to harmonize and she developed a love of performing musical theater. Camp songs and music from the 60s were constant. As an adult she was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Region One, singing with Pam & Abby in a barbershop quartet, and with the Sound of New England Chorus, traveling for international competitions in Seattle, Vegas and Honolulu Hawaii. One of her favorite memories was singing on the international
stage Family Chorus with Abby, Pam and her granddaughter Charlotte. She regularly supported the Young Women in Harmony and served as the chorus liaison for the program.
Feeding the birds, knowing the names of flowers in the yard and along the road, and being at the beach or in Maine were Frost’s joys. She is remembered also for loving all animals, especially her Golden Retriever rescues who awaited her in heaven: Auggie, Otis and Nugget.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to the Hebron Lions Charities Inc., 347 Gilead St, Hebron CT 06248; AHM Youth & Family Services Inc., 25 Pendleton Dr, Hebron CT 06248; Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, 110 Chapin Rd, Hudson MA 01749; Young Women in Harmony at SweetAdelines.com; or MiddlesexHealth.org/hospicedonation.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Peter's Church, Hebron on January 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
