Edward Anthony Meyer, 90, formerly of East Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, after a full and well lived life. After losing his beloved wife, Carol Kates Meyer, whom he called “Love,” Ed passed 33 days later, a testament to their 67-year marriage and the enduring devotion they shared.
Born on October 26, 1935, in Philadelphia, to Herman A. and Anna Kuchlak Meyer. He was the second of seven children including his sisters †Anna (†George) McGuinn, †Patricia (John) Bressler, †Geraldine (†Robert) Kayris, †Barbara (Charlie) Ferenz, and his brothers Michael (Joanne) Meyer, and Dennis (Patricia) Meyer, nine nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Fr. Daniel (Donan) McLaughlin, S.T.
Ed attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, a Jesuit high school in Philadelphia, and earned a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics from Villanova University. He developed lifelong friendships at both institutions. He later received a master’s degree in computer science from Drexel University. While a junior at Villanova, Ed met the love of his life, Carol Kates Meyer, whom he married in 1959. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
After graduation, Ed combined his natural gift for mathematics with a passion for technology, becoming a highly respected computer systems expert during the formative years of the information technology industry. As newlyweds, Ed and Carol moved to the Washington, D.C. area where he began his career with the National Security Agency (NSA). They later relocated to Cinnaminson, New Jersey, when Ed was recruited by RCA in Cherry Hill. In 1972, an entrepreneurial opportunity with a growing information technology company brought the family to East Norwalk, Connecticut, where they settled with their five children and made New England their home.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed was a talented woodworker whose craftsmanship filled his home and delighted his family. In their Norwalk home, he built a beautiful kitchen table, a basement sauna, and custom nativity mangers for each of his five children. These treasured pieces remain lasting reminders of his creativity and skill. He also had a gift for music, whether playing a song on his harmonica by ear, always singing in perfect key, or listening to classical music. Rachmaninov was his favorite.
As a lecturer in computer science at Fairfield University, Ed found great satisfaction mentoring students as they launched careers in the rapidly evolving technology field. A devoted Catholic, Ed was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in East Norwalk, where he served as a lector for many years and participated in Emmaus, Cursillo, and couple’s ministry programs. He was an active member of the AA fellowship and worked with others until his mid 70's, and had more than 30 years of sobriety when he passed away.
In the later years of his career, Ed thoughtfully arranged consulting assignments around the country so he and Carol could spend meaningful time with their growing family. He worked on projects throughout New England to be close to the young families of Terry, Donan, and Bridget, and later accepted assignments in Southern and Northern California to spend time with Chris, Tim, and their families. During this time, they also took trips throughout Europe, Asia, and enjoyed living in Brazil during a long-term work assignment.
Ed will be remembered by his children for his strong work ethic, reliability, practical wisdom, and unwavering dedication to family. He was a man who believed in planning ahead and taking care of responsibilities. His grandchildren will always remember the laughter he brought to holiday dinners through his quick wit, endless puns, and wonderfully mischievous sense of humor. His smile would often arrive before the punchline, and he delighted in watching others laugh, finding as much joy in their happiness as in the joke itself.
Ed is survived by his five children and 15 grandchildren: Theresa Pelletier (husband Paul; sons Nicholas (Brittany) and Andrew (Christine); Christopher Meyer (wife Rebecca; sons Jacob and Christopher, and daughter Jayna); Timothy Meyer (wife †Amy; sons Caleb and †Michael, and daughters Rachel (Nathan), Hannah, and Mary); Donan Meyer (wife Kate; daughters Michaela and MacKenzie, and son Donan James); and Bridget Chenette (husband †Michael; sons William and Jake). His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the students he mentored, the communities he served, and the values of faith, hard work, and devotion that he instilled in all who knew him.
Services for Ed and his beloved wife Carol will be held jointly in the Fall of 2026 in Ocean City, NJ. Details are forthcoming.
