Chris Cutter passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday night, April 11th. Chris, by trade, was a Cable Splicer. But his entire career was dedicated to serving and supporting CWA Local 1103. He served as political liaison to both State and National leaders working tirelessly, to get them to support issues that affective our union jobs, be it safety, medical etc. or supporting and participating with our members when we were on strike.
Chris also served as Assistant to CWA Local 1103’s President’s Danny Keenan, Rudy Albrecht, Bob McCracken and Joe Barca. He was the Editor of the award-winning Local’s periodical and newsletter, The Eagle. The monthly newsletter, kept our members abreast of political and social justice issues, local union issues and events such as the Gerry Horgan/ Ray Borella Memorial golf outing and other charity events such as, Children’s Hospital, Marine’s Toys for Tots etc.
Those of us who were friends or acquaintances of Chris will never forget his laid-back Minnesotan nature or his command of the English language and using those words to blend together to create vivid and comprehensive articles of interest in the Eagle. BTW, as told, Chris could type 95 words a minute on the keyboard.
What many did not know, Chris served in the Army in Vietnam and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with the V device, which is the fourth highest combat award, awarded for meritorious service, bravery and heroism. Like many veterans, he kept it close and never aspired to make himself into a hero.
As a father, he loved his children and step children and enjoyed seeing and loving all of his grandkids, his, mine and probably yours if he knew them. As a husband, he was kind, his heart was good and after all these years we both were happy to be married to each other. Our family will miss him, and I…already do.
There will be no service and his remains will be cremated and spread at sea as requested.
