Born on October 24, 1959, to James Michael Rufini and Verna Mildred Lourie, Brian grew up in their active household and attended Bolton High School. His first job was at his father’s gas station and then he found his way through a series of work experiences including Allen Manufacturing Company and Colt Industries. His employment at Manchester Hospital inspired him to found his own company, American Dream Unlimited, which he headed until retirement at the end of 2023.
Always warm and welcoming, Brian had the door perpetually open at the log home he built on a beautiful site in Andover. Fourth of July parties, birthdays, weddings, and special occasions brought numerous family and friends to Rufini Resort to enjoy his unbridled hospitality. He was an expert in good BBQ, a perfectly cooked steak, an amazing meat sauce and he played an excellent game of Telefunky. A good cigar and a ride on his Moto Guzzi were his ideas of a perfect day. He loved walks on the beach looking for sea glass, playing golf and traveling with his wife Patty.
Brian engendered his children with the importance of family, and he shared his love of sports, especially the Whalers, Huskies, and Red Sox with them from their childhoods. He was a lifelong collector of Hess trucks. The excitement of the arrival of the latest model never left him and he made sure to pass this love on to his sons and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of eleven years, Patricia Magruder Rufini, Brian is survived by his children: Jeremiah Rufini (Heather), Jesse Rufini, Rebecca Douglass, Steven Douglass, Sharina Komen (Jason Sardinas), and Dr. Jane Komen (Devin Kreinbring). He was predeceased by his father James and his infant daughter, Meagan Marie. Brian leaves his adoring grandchildren Seth Beaulieu, Alexa Ross, Blake Rufini, Caleb Perry, Rowan Byrne, Emile Rufini, and Mia Sardinas.
He is also survived by his mother, Verna Rufini, and siblings Jim (Judy), Laurie Rufini Johnson (Al) and John (Kip).
The family thanks the staff of Smilow Cancer Center at Saint Francis – Glastonbury, and Hartford Healthcare at Home for the loving care Brian received.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 11 at 10 AM at the Church of St. Maurice, 32 Hebron Road in Bolton, CT. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery in Manchester, CT.
