It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Bumgardner Sirry, who left peacefully on July 10, 2026 at the age of 82. Barbara was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on November 6, 1943 to Sarah Jane “Sally” Barnard Bumgardner and Sidney Dale Bumgardner Jr. She spent many wonderful years living in Minnesota, Utica and New Hartford, New York; Tallahassee, Florida; Roanoke, Richmond and Stafford, Virginia; and New Haven, Connecticut. She was a proud graduate of Roanoke College.
She was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love to everyone who has the privilege of knowing her. Barbara’s life was defined by her giant heart and friendly spirit. She never met a stranger, only friends she hadn’t made yet. This innate desire to care for others led her to a career as a social worker, where she dedicated years to supporting those in need and advocating for the vulnerable. Her career was a natural extension of who she was- someone who cared deeply for all. While she wore many hats throughout her beautiful life- shining brightly as a devoted granddaughter, daughter, a loving wife, and a cherished sister, aunt, cousin, and friend- her family was her absolute world. She and Donald Ray Sirry loved each other for 55 years. As a mother, she poured endless love, wisdom and patience into her children, Sarah, Andrew and Elizabeth (deceased). Yet, of all the titles she held and roles she played, her absolute favorite was being “Grammy” to her grandchildren, Benjamin & Lily. The love she had for her grandchildren was boundless, and the memories they created together will be treasured forever. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of compassion and unconditional love. Her laughter, her gentle guidance, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and valued will be missed beyond measure. She will live in our hearts forever.
A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. The family appreciates your love and support and will share information as it becomes available.
