Luis Anthony Cruz was born in Cataño, Puerto Rico, on February 10, 1949, to Hermogenes
Comas and Carmen Cruz. Luis moved to Philadelphia as a young man. He enjoyed working
with his hands, building computers, working around the house and tinkering with his many tools.
Luis enlisted in the USMC in 1968 and served until 1974. During his tenure in the USMC, he
reached the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese
Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
In 1977, Luis married Ana Lydia Rodriguez and they had 2 children, Adam Luis Cruz (Ildelis)
and Angela Cruz Rosado (Gilbert). Though their relationship ended Luis and Ana remained
friends. Luis then sacrificially took on the role of single father and raised his children with tender
love and dedication.
In 2009, after 32 years of service, Luis retired as a supervisor for the Liquor Control Board of
Pennsylvania. He was a hard worker and an extraordinary human being who gave selflessly to
many but yet remained an intensely private person. Luis had an infectious smile and was
always ready to lend a hand.
He was a devoted father and grandfather to Adam Jacob Cruz, Angelica Jocelyn Cruz, Vincente
Manuel Diaz and Viviana Michelle Diaz. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and
would welcome any and every opportunity to spend time with them.
