

Lawrence Robert Doyle Sr., affectionately known as "Big LD," was called home on August 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home. Born on February 22, 1947, in Ridley Park, PA, Big LD brought strength, warmth, and a larger-than-life presence to all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Lorraine, his cherished daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Steve Mancini, and his treasured grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, and Addison. He is also survived by his son, Lawrence Robert Doyle Jr., and his fiancée, Nicole Lee Hornick. Larry’s sister, Helen, and her husband, Joe Gallo, and his goddaughters, Christine Gilbert and Ashley Mahala. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Henry Doyle (1980) and Helen Traub Doyle (2016), and his brother, John "Jackie/Coach" Doyle (2001).
A proud graduate of St. James Catholic High School for Boys in Chester, PA, Larry was inducted into the Bulldogs Wall of Fame in 2020, a testament to his lasting impact on his alma mater. He continued his education at Widener University, laying the foundation for a successful career as a project manager. Larry oversaw numerous critical projects at several nuclear power plants, including Limerick, Three Mile Island, and PSEG Hope Creek in New Jersey, playing a vital role in supporting our region's energy infrastructure.
Larry's service to his country was marked by distinction. As a Naval Airman with Patrol Squadron Two from 1966 to 1968, Larry flew numerous missions, demonstrating exceptional bravery and skill. He was awarded the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement and the Navy Achievement Medal for his extraordinary service during combat operations in Vietnam. Larry's courageous actions during a MARKET TIME surveillance patrol led to the destruction of an enemy trawler, earning him commendations from high-ranking Naval Officials. His professionalism and unwavering devotion to duty reflected the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was an avid outdoorsman with a deep love for hunting and fishing. He was deeply involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, particularly VFW Post 928, where he served as a Past Commander. Larry also contributed his time and energy to the American Legion Clubs in Pleasant Gap and F.A. Scott Post 777, supporting countless veterans through fundraising, bingo, and other activities.
Larry was a proud supporter of the St. James Alumni Association, where he volunteered at the Doghouse. He played an integral role in organizing annual events like the Turkey Drive, Toy Drive, and scholarship fundraising efforts that provided new opportunities to local students.
Larry will be remembered as a "man's man"—a devoted family man and a loyal friend who would do anything for anyone without hesitation. He was known for his tireless work ethic, his generosity, and his unwavering support for those in need. Larry's legacy is one of kindness, strength, and dedication, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on Wednesday, August 21. 2024, at the St. James Catholic High School Alumni Association Home (The Doghouse) at 1499 East 9th Street, Eddystone, PA 19022. The family will receive friends from 12pm to 3pm. There will be a joint Veterans Service held at 3pm, followed by a time of sharing and fellowship from 3:15pm to 3:45pm precisely, concluding with Military Funeral Honors rendered by the United States Navy.
