Karen D. Whitaker

Karen Dodson Whitaker, 79, of Milmont Park, passed away on June 12 at home, surrounded by her loving husband and two daughters. Karen was born on September 24, 1945, in Ridley Park to Robert Roy and Charlotte Davenport Dodson.

Before retiring in 1995, she devoted her entire career to teaching. She spent many summers on Long Beach Island and at the Ridley Township Swim Club. Karen loved cooking, gardening, reading, spending time with her family down the shore, and cheering on the Eagles and Penn State football.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Roy Dodson, Jr.

Karen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, John; her daughters, Kerri Whitaker (Jana) of Wynnewood and Lauren McIntyre (Daniel) of Springfield; and her sister, Sandy Cole (Michael). Known lovingly as “Nana,” she will be forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren: Avery, Henry, Kieran, Reese, and Roy. She also leaves behind dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lazaretto Ballroom on June 24 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eagles Autism Foundation in Karen’s memory.
