Born in Philadelphia on December 13, 1954, John was the beloved son of the late Anne M. (nee Kennedy) Harrelson and the late John F. Harrelson, and he just recently turned 70 years old on his last birthday on December 13, 2024.
He was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle College High School and then went on to study Civil Engineering at Drexel University. John also worked for the United States Postal Service for 22 years before retiring in October of 2022.
John’s true vocation was as an Orchestral Composer, Professional Musician, and an Artisan. He embraced every genre and discipline of music with a deep passion. John will be best known for his gentle spirit and beautiful mind, and he will be dearly missed by many.
John is survived by his loving siblings, Thomas and Carolyn Harrelson, and Patty and Doug Evans. John will also be sadly missed by his 7 nieces and nephews; Jen (Rich), Kim (Brett), Laurie (Jason), Bill, Doug (Jess), Lisa, Christie, and his 9 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet John’s family on Saturday, January 18, 2025 starting at 11:45 AM at Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111, and to participate in his Funeral Mass starting at 1:00 PM in the church. Inurnment will be held privately by John’s family at a later date.
The family has respectfully asked that all flowers be omitted, and that anyone desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution in John’s name, and in the spirit of music he loved so dearly, to Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111 and which would be deeply appreciated by John’s family.
