Fred Wright III

Fred Wright III passed away on July 16, 2023, at the age of 87 in Philadelphia, PA at his home.

Services will be 11:AM, July 29, 2023, at Salvation Army KROC, Center 4200 Wissahickon Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19129.

Fred Wright III was born in Savannah, Georgia to Fred and Viola Wright on February 23,1936. He was married to Henrietta Pembleton on December 28, 1957, in Philadelphia, PA and from that union had 4 children.

Fred was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and while still in high school, joined the U.S. Naval Reserves. Upon graduation from John Bartram High School Fred transitioned from reservist to active duty in the U.S Navy. He was assigned to the USS Chambers and while serving achieved the positions of gunner and shallow water diver. After being honorably discharged he worked for the U.S Postal Service as a mail carrier and later as Water Inspector for the City of Philadelphia. He tested with the City of Philadelphia to become a master building mechanic and later advanced to Building and Maintenance Supervisor for the Youth Study Center of Philadelphia from which he retired after 32 years of service.

He was involved in AFL-CIO as a union rep., was a scoutmaster in Boy Scouts of America, a member of the National Rifle Association and the Folio Society. He was also involved in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, The National Wildlife Federation and the National Museum of the American Indian.

Fred Wright III was preceded in death by his parents Fred Wright II and Viola Wright, his wife Henrietta Wright and longtime companion Betty Burrell.

Fred Wright III is survived by his children Nannette (Ronald) Coley, Danielle M. Wright , Monique J. Wright , Fred (Robin) Wright IV, brother Walter Wright , sister Eleanor Thompson ;3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
