Douglas was born on March 14, 1948, to the late Albert and Lisa Pongracz. He was the oldest of four children, Lynda Pongracz, Robert Pongracz and Melody Reed. He was a 1966 graduate of Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, Pa. Growing up in the Doylestown/Perkasie area he spent time with his sister Lynda and brother Robert on their dad’s apple orchard. The orchard required year-round work. 30 acres of fruit trees (apples, pears, plums and peaches) as well as a large vineyard. Douglas and Robert helped with pruning and spraying and at harvest time it was “all hands-on deck: to get the fruit picked, and graded for the fruit stand in Warrington and right there at the orchard. Douglas and Robert learned to drive the Farmall tractors as soon as they could reach the pedals. There were many good memories of time spent on the farm working together or having family picnics with all the cousins.

Douglas married his wife on November 17, 1973, and become a dad to 3 daughters that day, adding a 4th daughter to the family a little over a year later. When he retired, he lived in Fort Myers, FL for 8 years enjoying the warm weather he loved so much.
He was also a very, very proud Marine. He enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of high school and did two tours during the Vietnam War. Douglas was a man of strong faith and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He also gave back to his community when he became a volunteer firefighter with the Paoli Fire Company for many years
