Alvin C. “Butch” Trusty, a beloved son of the late Mary E. Trusty and Charles E. Trusty of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, was born on October 28, 1941, and passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. Known affectionately as “Butch” by family and friends, Alvin grew up in Media, PA, where he left a lasting impression as a gifted athlete. A standout in both basketball and football during his high school years, Alvin was inducted into the Media Hall of Fame—an enduring tribute to his excellence on the court and the field.
After high school, Alvin attended and played football at Maryland Eastern Shore College for three years before proudly serving in the United States Army. Upon completing his military service, he returned home and built a steady, honorable career as a machinist. His longest and final position was at Scott Paper Company, where he worked until his early retirement.
A man of deep faith and unwavering generosity, Alvin was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in West Chester. He sang in the choir and was affectionately known as the “Candy Man,” always ready with a sweet treat and a warm smile. He also founded the church’s “Change for Change” fund—just one of many ways he quietly gave back to others.
Alvin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marian F. Trusty, whom he considered his best half. He was a loving brother to Josephine Chustz (deceased), Kim Trusty, Kemyatta Fitzgerald, and Donny Trusty. He was the devoted father of three sons—Wade Mason, Brian Trusty (Michelle), and David Trusty (Kea)—and took immense pride in being “Pop Pop” to his 15 grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life. Alvin also cherished a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he loved deeply and spoke of with great pride.
In his free time, Alvin found joy in life’s simple pleasures: listening to jazz and gospel music, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Sixers, tending to his garden, making trips to Cowtown, and sharing funny stories—each one punctuated by his unforgettable, booming laugh.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 334 E. Miner Street, West Chester, PA 19382.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the “Change for Change” fund at Bethel A.M.E. Church, in honor of Alvin’s legacy of giving. (Checks may be made payable to: Bethel A.M.E. Church.)
