Stephen Gary Shaffner, 65, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023, with his family by his side at his home in Miami. He was born on November 22, 1957, to George and Carol Shaffner 3rd of 3 children in Miami, Florida.
Stephen was a generous person who would do anything for anyone. He was a beloved husband to Robin Shaffner, a brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his children, Stephen Gary Shaffner Jr (Danielle), Kristina Nicole Benites (Jorge) from his previous marriage.
His daughter Amber Lasso from his current marriage.
He was also a loving grandfather to Kiersten Shaffner, Spencer Shaffner, Parker Shaffner, and Melinda Shaffner, Katelyn Benites, and Annalise Benites (Kristina).
His two sisters, Sherrie Klein (Loren Klein) of Texas and Vicki Rister (Tim Hager) of Indiana.
His niece Sandra Pomeroy (Bryan) and nephew Eric Klein (Mary Miller) children of Sherrie and Loren Klein.
Stephen retired from Miami-Dade County in November of 2019 as a Code Enforcement Officer. He dedicated many years of service to his community. Outside of his career, Stephen had a passion for Nascar and volunteered with Miller Industries Race Recovery Team at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Daytona International Speedway and others, for Nascar, Indy and several other race car leagues on dozens of occasions for over a decade. Along with this passion, he was part of a local radio station, Thunder Country 100.3, on Thursdays at Keg South to talk about the races. The show was weekly and called “The Octane Hour” and he was given the title “Crew Chief” for the show.
A Celebration of Life and Memories will be held at Stephen and Robin’s home at 12291 SW 207 Street on November 19, 2023, from 1 to 5 pm.
