Philip, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and esteemed educator, passed away on May 31, 2023 at his home in Miami, leaving behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and passion. Born in East Orange, New Jersey on October 21, 1953, Philip's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his profound impact on his students, and his lifelong devotion to the art of jazz.
Philip is survived by his wife Allguin, his daughter Anne, his brother Brör Thomas David (Linda) his nephew Brör Andrew David (Alexis), his niece Hailey Alessha (Danny) Aguiar and his grand-nieces and grand-nephews Dean, Dominic, Ivy, Knox, Jade, Avery and Jovi. Philip is preceded in death by his mother Sara Streander.
Philip earned degrees from Miami-Dade College, FIU and in 1991, Philip earned his Master's of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from the prestigious University of Southern California. Armed with a wealth of knowledge and a passion for teaching, he started his teaching as an Assistant Professor at USC and then embarked on a remarkable journey at Miami-Dade College. For three decades, Philip served as a Senior Associate Professor in the Department of English and Communication, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of his students. His commitment to education was unwavering, and his ability to inspire and mentor countless individuals will forever be cherished.
From 2013 to 2016, Philip assumed the role of Chairperson of the Department, leading with wisdom and dedication. Under his guidance, the department flourished, fostering an environment of creativity, growth, and academic excellence.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Philip's soul resonated with the vibrant and soulful sounds of jazz. An accomplished guitarist, he immersed himself in the rhythm and melody, finding solace and joy within the music. Whether he was strumming the strings or losing himself in the melodies of jazz legends, Philip's passion for the genre was infectious.
Philip J. Lane, will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a cherished brother, a proud uncle, a trusted friend and a compassionate educator. His impact on the lives he touched will continue to reverberate through the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Philip, let us remember him not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the love, wisdom, and joy he shared with us all. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory forever inspire us to pursue our passions with unwavering dedication, just as he did.
