Martha was born in New York and grew up in Sayreville, NJ, before attending Marquette University. She went on to build her career and her life in Miami, where she spent decades as an ICU nurse, bringing the same compassion to her patients that she brought to everyone she loved. She was a feminist in name and in practice and was a devoted supporter of midwives, healthcare access, and causes that made the world a better, fairer place.
Outside of her family and career, Martha’s loves were many: tracing the family’s roots through genealogy, her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, exploring the world from Antarctica to Bora Bora, which she called boring, boring because it rained her entire stay. Capetown and Copenhagen, she saw the world and made friends everywhere. She was also known for speed finishing the New York Times crossword puzzle and no one could beat her at Jeopardy!
She raised four children, her own sisters and brother, and countless grandchildren, opening her home and her heart to anyone who needed it. She was the most beloved matriarch of the family. She loved fiercely, laughed often, never shied away from difficult truths and gave without keeping score.
She will be remembered for her wit, her intelligence, her open door, and the love she gave to everyone lucky enough to know her.
A celebration of life will be held on October 10th in Sarasota, FL. All are welcome to come and share stories and celebrate. Please contact the family for details on time and address.
She will be greatly missed.
