

Karen was born in Milwaukee, WI, on March 11, 1950, the daughter of Earl and Doris Nelson. Karen grew up in Milwaukee and Racine, graduating from Case High School in 1968. While attending high school church camp, Karen met her husband, James Belz. Karen and James Belz were married at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Racine, WI on August 15, 1970, and were married for 56 years.
Karen attended Wartburg College and University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1972.
Karen worked in customer service across a variety of industries including television, retail, travel, and manufacturing. In 2000 she retired and for the past 25 years she has been a resident of south Florida. She was a member of Living Faith Lutheran Church and active in many of their worship and community outreach ministries. Karen was an avid knitter, creating and sharing her scarfs and prayer shawls with others. She also enjoyed playing card games, traveling, and spending time with family.
Karen is survived by her husband, James, two sons, Steven Belz (Kelly) and Michael Belz, two grandchildren, Mitchell and Simon (Jacque) Belz, cousin Julianne Nelson, and numerous extended family.
Per her wishes, there will not be a memorial service – instead, please honor her memory by spending time with the important people in your life. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
